CEO & Owner/Operator
the visionary CEO and owner/operator of Cinema Verde Productions, Inc., has been a prominent figure in the television, film, documentary, and commercial industry since 2005. His journey began in 1986 when he started working at local television stations while pursuing his education in film. A creative force from a young age, Mario filmed short films with his 8mm camera as a teenager and honed his skills at Chula Vista Highschool's School for the Creative and Performing Arts (SCPA). He furthered his education, graduating from SDSU's Film & Television curriculum in 1995.
With an unwavering passion for storytelling through the lens, Mario embarked on his entrepreneurial journey, founding Ortiz Film Works immediately after graduation. His experience spans across various roles, showcasing his versatility as a Director of Photography, camera operator (including Steadicam operator), producer, and director.
Mario's impressive track record includes nominations for 15 Emmy Awards, of which he has secured three wins. Additionally, he boasts four Telly Awards, a Communicator Award, and a Vision Award. His contributions extend to the film industry, with notable success as the producer, director, and DP for the romantic comedy film "The Little Match Makers," which clinched the Best Film award at the San Diego Indy Fest.
As a director of photography, Mario has worked on seven feature films, including the recently filmed "Slaughterhouse 2" in the summer of 2023. His prowess in cinematography is further evidenced by accolades for projects such as "Ruta Madre" and "Spirit Quest," the latter winning Best Documentary at the Monrovia Film Festival in December 2023.
Not only confined to the big screen, Mario has made significant contributions to documentary filmmaking. His work on projects like "Dream A World Education's The Ripple Effect" and "Sentir El Sol" has garnered critical acclaim, with the latter winning several festival awards in 2022 and 2023 and being featured on KPBS's VOCES shorts series.
